Human heart naturally directed to God. They made every effort to communicate with God, it started from their anxiety to build relation with God which then came up with what is called prayer. In prayer, human build communication with God in a personal relation, so it brings many kinds of prayer. Outer prayer and inner prayer or what we called it as meditation or meditative prayer.
We are not tempted to talk but deep contemplation while doing meditative prayer or meditation. Meditation is a personal journey towards inner peace and silence in and with Jesus. With meditation, we are seeking for the truth itself based on love. There are some kinds of meditation pattern based on Christian values that we can apply it into our daily lives such as Tesesian meditation, Lectio Divina (or known as Bible Meditation), and healing meditation. Here are some benefits in doing meditation:
- Meditation helps human from any kinds of mental illness, like psychosomatic. It also can help to purify mind, control communication and guide action.
- Meditation is able to strengthen the character, heart, mind and body.
- Meditation help to relieve and ease tension and is able to make people feel relax and in peace.
- With an inner silence and peace, meditation helps to build intrapersonal relation with others as well with God.
The main problem in spiritual development of human beings today is that many people have no time for themselves to be silence in prayer. According to some spirituality experts, living a life without reflection will become empty and dry. Because the depth of your spiritual life is mostly influenced by the ability to deepen sensitivity and awareness of the presence of God in life through God’s grace given daily. Spare your time 5 to 30 minutes a day for meditation, to neutralize the mind after daily activity. These are right ways to do meditation you can do yourself, as follows:
- Close your eyes and find yourself a comfortable and relax position in meditation. The body position can be sitting upright or lying down upright.
- Find a quiet place without any noise.
- Use a breathing method to find peace. Inhale and exhale slowly.
- Control your mind and feeling. These are things a bit hard to do in meditation that we have to focus.
- Focus your mind on to what you want to achieve in meditation. For example a willingness to find inner peace by getting closer to God and so on.
